The Minister for Public Works, Meteorological Services, and Transport Hon. Ro Filipe Tuisawau said the new bridge is strong enough to support the weight of heavy trucks and is safe enough to serve as a reliable connection due to its climate-resilient standard.
He conveyed his sincere appreciation for the words spoken by the Turaga ni Tui Vatu which also signified the blessing from the vanua and their contribution to this project.
The minister also conveyed his sincere gratitude to the people and the Government of Australia for the support provided towards this project.
Australian High Commission's Acting Deputy High Commissioner in Fiji, Ms Sophie Temby said the Yaqara Bridge will be an important connector of people, to their families, livelihoods, and essential services.
“Australia, through the Australian Infrastructure Financing Facility for the Pacific (AIFFP), is delighted to support the Fiji Government’s restoration of Yaqara Bridge, a key piece of infrastructure for communities here in the northern part of Viti Levu, with the equivalent of FJD3.83 million in financing.”
She said the bridge works form part of a financing package from the Australian Government of FJD117 million to support the FRA in the renewal or resealing of more than 1.5 million square metres of road surface throughout Fiji, as well as the replacement of nine bridges that are crucial to the Fijian economy.
The new Yaqara Bridge is an investment of $9.8 Million.
