Health signs Consultancy Agreement on the Improvement and Extension of Kiluúfi Hospital

The Ministry of Health and Medical Services (MHMS) has signed an agreement with three Japanese companies on 25 July 2023 to extend and improve the Kiluúfi Hospital. This initiative is in partnership with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The companies involved are Fukunaga Architects-Engineers, Yachiyo Engineering Co Ltd, and Binko International Limited.

The goal of this project is to upgrade Kiluúfi Hospital's facilities, including a new central clinical building, updating medical equipment, and improving the water and electricity systems for cost efficiency. This will improve healthcare in the Malaita Province.

Pauline McNeil, Permanent Secretary of MHMS, thanked the Japanese Government and JICA for their support. She also praised the knowledge and expertise of the consortium and reaffirmed the Ministry's commitment to the project.

"This project is not just a critical deliverable for both the Ministry and JICA, but it's also poised to strengthen the health system of Kiluúfi Hospital, and consequently, the entire country. It will function as a substantial alternative for the National Referral Hospital in terms of tertiary services in the Province," asserted Mrs. McNeil.

The project aims to strengthen Kiluúfi Hospital's health system, providing a significant alternative for the National Referral Hospital's tertiary services in the Province. The MHMS and the Government consider this project crucial and pledge their cooperation for its successful implementation.

The JICA representative in the Solomon Islands assured that the project will meet the highest standards.

The Resident Representative of JICA in the Solomon Islands sincerely assured the Ministry that the project would be executed to the highest possible standard.
