MOU for the Construction of the 2023 Pacific Games National Stadium Sign

The Chairman of the National Hosting Authority (NHA) of the 2023 Pacific Games and Secretary to Prime Minister, Dr Jimmie Rodgers, and the Chairman of Fu Tsu Construction Co. Ltd, Mr. Cliff Lin signed a Memorandum of U nderstanding (MOU) on the construction of the national Stadium for the 2023 Pacific Games at the Prime Minister’s Office on 9 July 2019.

According to a joint press statement by the Pacific Games 2023 National Hosting Authority Solomon of Islands Government and Fu Tsu Construction Company Ltd of Taiwan / ROC, the MOU represents the first step in implementing the Agreement signed between the Government of Solomon Islands and Government of Taiwan / ROC on 15 March 2019 on the funding of the National Stadium. Notably the sign ing took place only a few days after the Official Launch of 2023 Pacific
Games Theme, Logo and Theme Song on 4th July 2019.

The MOU sets out the parameters and the time lines for detailed consultations and negotiations between the NHA and Fu Tsu Construction Company Ltd on the design and construction of the Stadium . The outcomes of this consultations will be incorporated into a ‘Definitive Agreement to be signed between the NHA and Fu Tsu Construction Company Ltd no later than November 1 2019.

Dr Rodgers welcomed Mr Cliff Lin to Solomon Islands and thanked Fu Tsu through him for prioritising the implementation of the 2023 Pacific Games 2 Stadium project. He assured Chairman Lin, the NHA looks forward to working with his team to ensure the definitive agreement for the design and construction of the 2023 Pacific Games Stadium is signed by or before November 1, 2019.

"The stadium is another example of the cordial relations between Solomon Islands and Taiwan" he said.

Chairman Cliff Lin thanked the government of Solomon Islands for selecting Fu Tsu to design and build the 2023 Pacific Games Stadium. He assured the Chairman of the NHA that the new world-class national Stadium for the 2023 Pacific Games will be ready for use by January 2023. This will ensure Solomon Island athletes have the opportunity to practice on and use the new stadium prior to the start of the 2023 Games.

The MOU signing was witnessed by senior officials from both governments, including Dr. Jimmie Rodgers, Secretary to the Prime Minister and Chair of the National Hosting Authority for PG2023, other representatives from the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet,
