TC Judy destroys VT3 million streetlight project

TC Judy destroys VT3 million streetlight project

Almost half of all the 50 solar streetlights that were installed by the SHEFA Provincial Government Council (SPGC) in 2021 at Beverly Hills, Bladiniere, and Blacksand areas under the “Let there be light” project, have been destroyed in the Tropical Cyclone (TC) Judy on Wednesday, 1st of March 2023.

The project was worth over VT3 million, and the streetlights were imported from China with the assistance of an Australian consultant.

The project was implemented to cater for night activities and programs coordinated by each of the communities.

It was relayed by one of the residents at Bladiniere Estate that problems such as fights and youths chasing people have emerged again after the damage caused by the cyclone.
